Unified Patent Court appoints experienced German judges

On October 19, 2022, the Unified Patent Court published the judges elected for the court. Both Mr. Grabinski and Ms. Rombach were appointed as judges in the court of second instance, both of whom have already worked at the German Federal Supreme Court (BGH) for the Xth Senate, which is responsible for patent disputes. Mr. Grabinski, who is currently the deputy chairman of the Xth Senate of the BGH, was elected President of the court of appeal.

There are also well-known German judges in the court of first instance, such as Ms. Voß in the central chamber in Munich or the judges Pichlmaier and Zigann, who are already working at the Munich Regional Court.

The establishment of the Unified Patent Court and its activities therefore appear to be within the planned time frame, so that the court can be expected to take up its activities at the beginning of April 2022.
