New Chamber for Copyright Law at the Regional Court Munich I

On 1 October 2020, the 42nd Civil Chamber at the Regional Court Munich I commenced its work under the chairwomanship of Dr. Elke Schwager. With immediate effect, the newly established chamber will handle all disputes concerning Copyright Law for the first and second instance, Design Law including Community Design Law, Publishing Law and disputes concerning claims arising from the production and exploitation of movies. This is intended to relieve the burden on the existing other chambers of intellectual property law.

The background of the new establishment is that the Regional Court Munich I is one of two Bavarian regional courts, in addition to the Regional Court Nuremberg-Fürth, which is responsible for Copyright Law disputes as well as Design and Community Design Law disputes.

Furthermore, the concentration of Copyright at the new chamber is intended to strengthen the location of the copyright court and also to promote the Design Law.

It has also to be mentioned that two of the three judges are experienced judges of mediation and that that experience, especially in the field of intellectual property, is incorporated into the handling of cases.

The new judges focus on communication, transparency and constructive cooperation with the parties and the lawyers, so that a positive and expedient conduct of the case can be expected.
